‘Good luck to Hitchens!’

There are only a few hours to go before Nigerian Archbishop John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan’s showdown with Christopher Hitchens. The Archbishop of Abuja will speak in favour of the motion “The Catholic church is a force for good in the world” at a debate at Methodist Central Hall in central London. Hitch, not surprisingly, is opposing.

According to John Allen, the archbishop is in confident mood. When Allen’s wife wished him good luck last week, he replied: “Good luck to Hitchens!”

  1. Eeeek…it didn’t go well for the archbishop. Hitchens is a formidable foe.

  2. The fact is that the archbishop’s position is completely unjustifiable. Furthermore, he completely ignored all of Fry’s and Hitchens’s points regarding condoms and HIV/AIDS.
