And the loser is…
So, this year’s Nobel Peace Prize has gone to US President Barack Obama. The news will disappoint those who were hoping the award would go to leading interfaith advocate Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad.
Prince Ghazi, a professor of the Philosophy of Islamic Faith at Jordan University and a member of the Jordanian Royal family, brought Islamic scholars from around the world together to write A Common Word Between Us and You, a letter to the world’s Christian leaders inspired by Pope Benedict XVI’s Regensburg address. The Prince gave the Pope a warm welcome when he visited the Jordanian capital, Amman, in May.
Prince Ghazi was also a key figure in the 2005 Amman Initiative, which brought together 170 Muslim scholars from 40 countries to produce a “theological counter-attack against terrorism”.
