The end of the Great Schism? Ctd

Today’s announcement that Benedict XVI will visit Cyprus next year has prompted immediate speculation that the island will host the long-awaited first face-to-face meeting between the Pope and the Russian Orthodox Patriarch.

Why Cyprus? Because it is the venue for current high-level talks between Catholic and Orthodox theologians, because Catholic and Orthodox Cypriots enjoy good relations and because Kirill, the new Patriarch of Moscow, is responding warmly to Pope Benedict’s overtures.
