The President and the Pope: pushing for peace
As President Barack Obama prepares to meet Israeli and Palestinian leaders on Tuesday, Pope Benedict XVI has called again for peace in the Middle East.
Speaking before Eastern Catholic Church leaders at Castel Gandolfo, he announced that a Synod of Bishops would discuss the region’s troubles next year. The synod, which will take place from October 10 to October 14 2010, will have the theme “The Catholic Church in the Middle East: communion and witness”.
This is another example of the striking parallels between Pope Benedict and President Obama on Middle East affairs.
